From 20 May to 22 July, the sun never sets in Kirkenes. Experience one of nature's most surreal phenomena.
The midnight sun is one of the most fascinating natural phenomena in the Nordic region. For two months every year, night disappears entirely – the sun is visible around the clock, casting a dreamy golden light over the mountains, fjords and forests.
This opens up activities you would not normally do in the middle of the night: hiking to mountain tops, kayaking on calm water, fishing and photography in a light that photographers travel the world to experience.
Kirkenes' location north of the Arctic Circle makes the midnight sun particularly dramatic here, with the sun hanging low on the horizon and colouring everything in shades of orange and pink.
